Handbrake for OSX
Today I wanted to upgrade my Handbrake installation which was quite outdated (0.7.1). I went over to the Handbrake webpage and downloaded the 10.4 distribution. To my big surprise the package was broken: it had errors while unarchiving and the finder refused to mount it. The 10.3 distribution didn't have these kind of problems but inside there was only the command line client.
But I wanted the clicky thingy! So I had to download the source and compile all 59 packages which are needed for the application. Since this step isn't preferred by the usual Mac user I provide the resulting Handbrake binary here. It is for i386 only!
Update:
I played a bit with the compilers settings and this build is slightly faster than the old one (ripping & encoding MPEG-4 with a little more than 70 frames/sec on a Core2Duo 2.16Ghz). It is still not a universal build so in case you have a powerpc based Macintosh you still have to stick with the binary provided at HandBrakes homepage.
Update:
And here is the universal build of latest HandBrake 0.8.5b1.
